The Louisiana Superdome, located at 1500 Sugar Bowl Drive , New Orleans, LA 70112, has been the home of the New Orleans Saints and the University of Tulane Green Wave since 1975. The Saints play in the National Football League while the University of Tulane plays in Conference-USA. The New Orleans Jazz (now in Utah) of the National Basketball Association played in the Superdome from 1975-1979 and the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL played in the Superdome during the 1984 season. The Superdome is owned by the Louisiana Stadium/Expo District and construction costs were $134 at the time of construction. The stadium was financed thru a bond issue backed by a hotel tax. The Superdome can hold almost 73,000 people ranking it among the top stadiums annually in total attendance. The stadium sits on 13 acres of land and is 27 stories high at its peak.

The stadium also features 137 luxury suites and more than 14,000 club level seats, also near the top in the nation. The attendance in the late 1990s wasn’t anything too exciting to the league but when the Saints made the playoffs in the 2000 season, the fans were behind them all the way and in the following seasons, the Saints have sold out nearly every game that has been played at the Superdome. The Saints were another of the NFL teams that made the switch to a Fieldturf playing surface in 2002 after using Astroturf for many years. During the summer of 1996, the Superdome underwent $22.8 million of renovations including a new entrance lobby, new ticket offices, an additional concourse serving the upper level seats, refurbished ballrooms, additional accommodations for the disabled and upgraded safety and security equipment. The Superdome has also hosted baseball and basketball games, trade shows, conventions, concerts, and many other events over the years along with six Super Bowls. The Superdome is completely domed but the Saints are interested in building a new stadium featuring a retractable roof to show off the wonderful weather that the city of New Orleans is accustomed to.
